Toiletries and chocolates and bottles of water -yes
TVs? Bed Linen? Really???
Surely the coat hangers aren't any good? Aren't they usually attached to the rails?

I will take toiletries that I've partly used (they'll be chucked otherwise), the shower cap - again used by me already, but there's always a bit more use in it, pencil and paper as I'll have partly used them already, and I have been known to snaffle a couple of tea bags and biscuits for the journey home if we're leaving early and haven't had time for a cuppa before leaving. So basically just "consumables" that are one-use items. On the odd occasion I've needed to use the sewing kit, I kept it because they won't put it out for another guest if half the cotton is gone.
I wouldn't dream of taking things that can be laundered ready for a new guest, or electricals. If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
I will take the toiletries which I've started.
If I am travelling any distance I may take any complimentary biscuits/snacks which I haven't used, and a sachet or two of coffee if I'm filling a thermos for the journey.
I wouldn't feel any qualms about taking tea and coffee sachets even if I wasn't going to use them immediately - it makes no difference to the hotel whether I drink 2 cups of coffee in the morning when I get up, of a glass of water and take the sachets with me to use at a later date.
I wouldn't take anything which wasn't clearly complimentary and therefore something I've paid for in the price of the room, so for me, that limits it to stationery & pen, food and drink, toiletries and anything which is specifically marked / described as complimentary.
I took the slippers from one hotel as I knew I was going to be staying in a very basic place the following night, and had forgotten to pack slippers of my own, but I asked first and was told it was fine, as they considered the slippers as disposable in any event. (They were rather nice towelling ones, so I didn't see them as disposable - if they'd been the really flimsy ones which obviously won't stand washing I probably wouldn't have bothered to ask)All posts are my personal opinion, not formal advice Always get proper, professional advice (particularly about anything legal!)0 -
If the hotel has a dirty laundry bag - I take that as well, even though it supposed use is for putting clothes you want washing/dry cleaning during your stay. Its big and strong.
This morning, I got out my bag to pack for my hospital stay and staying at my parents' the following night, inside my suitcase. Found a laundry bag from one of the hotel chains in the US - that was 5 years ago!0 -
I When we stayed in the Crowne Plaza for our awards ball in April they left aromatherapy sleep kits on the pillow so my mate swiped those
Those are lovely: "This Works" I think they're called, and they do! DH is under instruction to grab more of those if he stays in a Crown Plaza again! He also nicks the shower caps (useful for colouring hair) and any decent branded toiletries like Molton Brown, White Company etc. Little note pads and nice retractable pens (not the cheapo stick biros) tend to fall into our suitcases too.
It's my small recompense for all those nights we spend apart due to his job.0 -
Complimentary not complementary! Arrggghhh."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0

Slippers are fine to take , they arent going to reuse them , they tend to be pretty flimsy anyway

In an executive room ,the amount of stuff they provided was mind boggling and replenished 3 times a dayVuja De - the feeling you'll be here later0 -
I've taken the flat slip on slippers several times after checking with the cleaners that they can't be washed and re-used.
I see nothing wrong with taking complimentary toiletries, refreshments and stationery.
Anything else belongs to the hotel and is clearly not designed to be taken.0 -
I sometimes leave books in rooms on purpose.
Take some cheap books on holiday, when I've finished reading I dump. Saves a bit of weight coming back.0 -
People steal toilet paper, coat hangers and shampoo and then complain about the high cost of hotel rooms?
Maybe these folks need to check their forehead the next time they look in a mirror to see if they have a mark on it in the shape of an 'L'.0
