PPI claims with no documentation

This is my first posting:
I've had an almost continues loan from Barclay's since 1990. just kept renewing as brought a new motorbike every three years. had a good job with post office and husband was factory supervisor.
Now i am my husbands carer and had to give up work (he has secondary progressive MS and can not work)
I can not find any documents for the loans as i think i shredded them but can i still claim?
Barclay's keep writing standard letters saying i may be able to claim and the money would be a gods send. how do i go about it as the forms asking for dates and without the paperwork it's impossible. and my husbands memory is effected by his MS so he can't help.
any advice please?:)

I recently wrote to Barclays archive dept who found my old account numbers for a loan from the year 2000 . It took about 2 weeks for them to supply me with this info, so it is possible to get old account numbers.0

thank you for your reply. Its so frustrating, they actually gave me my account number, just claim they do not have details of what i paid etc even though their own records show I paid.
Shall I do a seperate DSAR for that account specifically now or make an ombudsman claim? sorry to be a bit slow on this but I'm just not clear on the next steps at the moment and a bit disheartened as I have been missold PPI - i clearly remember Barclays telling me I had to have it or they wouldnt lend me the money. I was 23 at the time and had no clue!0 -
