I agree. The wear and tear on your machine could well outweigh any profit.
I think I would check out the local laundrette for this. Their machines are bigger and you know exactly what the cost is, so you can factor that into your quote. I don't know how many overalls will fit in a normal load, but they will be heavy cotton and man sized, so not a huge number.
I would try and work out how many overalls to a load and charge on multiples of that. So say you think you'd be able to fit 10 overalls in a large laundrette style washing machine and tumble dryer and then price up for batches of overall of up to 10.
On the tumble dryer point - do check that the washing instructions do not say 'don't tumble dry' as some types of cotton shrink the tumble dryer (I know to my cost!). TBH I'd be surprised if overalls would be that delicate but worth checking.I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0 -
Lots of lovely points that I wouldn't have considered. Thank you everyone for your help. I'm off to do my research now on local launderettes!
Much appreciated!!0 -
My local launderette is closed now (obviously) and doesn't have a website but will call them in the morning for prices of machines.
The next nearest one is 7 miles away and similar, no website, but the 12 mile away one has a site and they have a superlarge machine which washes sports kits (i'm thinking similar to overalls in quantity) in 31 mins and is £6.00. The drier is £1.00 per 15 mins.
If i did this option i'd like to think for £10 maybe (not the first wash as this might take 2 goes) and then charge for my time and effort on top.
I'm starting to think that might be the better option than using a domestic machine for this, as pointed out, wear and tear and how few overalls that might go in my machine.

For your info I wash OH's overalls and get 2 in easily but 3 is a squeeze. I think I have a 7kg machine. They do dry quite quickly in the dryer and overnight on an airer indoors.
OH works in farming and his overalls bear the brunt of mud, cow poo, oil and other stains I don't want to know the origin of!! I have always used our washing machine and never noticed a deterioration due to this.
Having used the launderette when we didn't have a washing machine it was quicker as the washes are a maximum of 40 minutes and the dryers are bigger and quicker.0
