Leaking Toilet

Ah so my toilet would appear to be leaking and the noise is keeping me up at night.

Does anyone know a) roughly how much it could be to get it fixed?

I've had a look inside and can't see anything visibility wrong - but then I don't really know what I'm doing.

I've done Goggle etc and all the toilets have a ball - mine doesn't its a modern one - so idea ?

All thoughts welcome.

I suspect you mean that there is water constantly running into the pan. A modern loo doesn't have a separate overflow with a pipe through the wall to the outside. If the cistern overflows it goes into the pan through a vertical tube set at the appropriate height.

    There are two possibilities here:

    1. The inlet valve is leaking in which case the water level will be up to the top of the overflow tube and the water doesn't shut off. In this case either the diaphragm (washer) inside is not very well or the float is incorrectly adjusted.

    2. The flush valve is leaking in which case the water will not be going down the overflow tube but the inlet valve will still be letting water in as the level drops.

Can you post up a pioc of the inside of the cistern (ie with the lid off) so that we can see what type of fill valve and what type of flush valve you have to be able to suggest the actions you take next - assuming you want to DIY it.

It will take a plumber (or a handyman for that matter) less than an hour to sort if you choose to get someone in.

    Cheers

Is the water that appears to be running between the cistern and the loo seat the leak?

No that only its water flowing into the overflow pipe constantly leaking into the toilet bowl that is the problem.

Please help - I can't sleep with the noise and its driving me mental!

Does anyone know how to fix this type of toilet?

    :)

    KS has it.

The material cost is about £20 for a new "ball valve/overflow" unit.

If the mechanical connection and seal twixt cistern and bowl has gone, then it's another £5r

That's the diy answer, the trades on here will tell what you should be charged given your location
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
