Dental Implants

Anyone out there had dental implants and be willing to share their experience on here.

I definitely need two possibly four and I am soon going to make a consultation to get it organised.

Any tips for the consultation etc?

Any good or bad stories?

I am nervous about it but as it needs done I am looking forward to it as well

If you do a search on dental implants- you will probably find quite a few older threads on it which might be helpful.
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

Ask how many they have done. Toothsmith says quality not quantity but they need to have done over one hundred. I asked my Dentist who has 135 I believe, and devotes Thursdays to I days.

I'm having a denture until implant time. Hate the thought of a denture.

All you reading this, brush, but most of all floss or TEPE or both. If you do all that you won't be discussing what we are, which is possibly losing your teeth.

Good point Padstow..............but some unfortunate people may have excellent oral health and then lose a tooth/teeth in an accident.;)

It is beyond depressing. I already have a partial denture until such time as the implants get sorted.

I'm not going into how I feel about it as it will upset me too much at the minute but I wouldn't wish it on anybody.

I understand you're not happy with wearing a denture but hopefully you will be suitable for dental implants.

Getting the right dentist is imperative. I've been with the same guy for 16 years, and was kept updated as he trained up on the process, I think he'd done 30 or so before he did me 3 years ago. I had a twin (lower) installed and it was excellent - those titanium pins really did the job!

Please tell us more at what stage you're at Iantanna.

I'm having a denture with 3 teeth this week. Implant later. My biggest worry is lack of taste meanwhile.

I had my two bottom front teeth out last year. I ve had a partial denture for over a year now. I can honestly say that I wasn't affected by loss of taste. The biggest problem when I first got them was that I found it difficult to talk with them for a few weeks. It was a bit of a shock at the time..................

I had gum disease and a fear of the dentist meant I let it go for years upon end until finally I had to have them removed or else they were going to fall out. Hindsight I know.

Anyway yes I hope to get implants next year once I have the money saved. Im 34 and feel like life is ticking by, I would really like to meet someone and have a family but feel the denture is stopping me.

How would I ever explain to anyone that I have a denture. I can just imagine the reaction. You hear all those jokes about still having your own teeth etc.......

I don't know if people know if I have a denture or not. I doubt my family would as Im sure they would have said something. I would say some people in work know as when I first got them they were loose and moved about. Also I have to glue them in the morning and again after lunch ,

Padstow have you made arrangements for your implants?

Just wanted to wish you well with it all, lantanna. I can really empathise with you, about delaying treatment for many years due to a fear of the dentist, and also about dental issues affecting your personal confidence. Hope you get to where you want to be soon - good luck x
