Our offer on a property has been accepted and I'm currently shopping around for conveyancing. I have applied for a mortgage through HSBC and they wanted to me use their own panel which is managed by Countrywide conveyancing (but read horrible reviews about them) or any other accredited CQS so that they can act on my behalf on HSBC. So shopped around online compareandconvey.co.uk & reallymoving.com and they are quoting lot lesser than what my estate agent's recommended solicitors charge but I want to know if I can go with these online conveyancers. So far Beaumont legal came the best amongst others. Also the reviews for BL is very positive on both the websites which I have used for getting the quotes but I want to know if someone has used BL in past and can share their experiences.

i dont know what you are asking but im told that mortgages offered by HSPC and their associated arms eg first direct attract an extra fee. If i were you i would go for the cheapest quote that also has the best reviews0

In my experience cheapest quote may not be the best but it would certainly be beter than HSBC/Countrywide!0

1)when comparing quotes, check for hidden extras. Especially the cheap online quotes. Read:
http://www.theadvisory.co.uk/conveyancing-quote.php
2) ring the conveyancers you are interested in and ask if they are on HSBC's panel.
3) better still, pop into 2/3solicitors in your High Street, ask to see a solicitor to discuss conveyancing. You'll soon findout if you feelcomfortable with them, can ask about HSBC, and using a localfirm means you can pop in any time....0 -
If you use a solicitor who is not on the panel, then I *think* HSBC will instruct CC to do their own conveyancing, for which you pay an extra fee.
This *will* slow things down ... immensely ... some people say they would never sell to someone using CC again...0 -
you will get what you pay for - cheapest isn't necessarily best - in fact if you go with cheap online providers you'll often find that the work is being done by unqualified people in a call-centre type set up - which is OK if your purchase is totally straight forward and there are no hitches or unexpected issues.
I would recommend speaking to a couple of local solicitors (or even non-local, if you have recommendations from friends) Go by personal recommendations. All posts are my personal opinion, not formal advice Always get proper, professional advice (particularly about anything legal!)0 -
You might want to check the solicitor who post on these boards, they seem very knowledgeable (I do not have personal experience with them, just that they are very helpful even for non-paying client and hope they will perform a good job for a paying client)0

Its good to have a recommendation , we asked a local builder who he used, and he give us good advice on what to expect,
I know we are paying more than we would had we gone with some other (I got 3 quotes) but after speaking to solicitor and being introduced to his secretary I am happy we have chosen the right one
its not always about money0
