Panasonic Camera recordings

Hi
I have a Panasonic Lumix fz38 Camera and when I record a video on it and try to then copy and paste it onto a usb stick I cannot watch/see it. I now find out it has been recorded in AVCHD.

This is no good if I cannot see it say eg on telly. How can I convert to more watchable format pls.

ps I am no techie

I don't know about watching on TV, but can you use something like VLC player to view it on your PC - I find that it can play pretty much anything I throw at it it (although I've never come across the format you have despite having a Panasonic camera myself).

google Mpeg streamclip. Should allow you to change to any format you fancy. However some achvd might not translate well for a audio transfer as believe is saved as a stream(but been a while since investigating these issues). I imagine there may be some software that came with it to perform basic dvd copies etc. but will be rubbish. Mpeg stream clip is what you want for everything possible for conversion (Mac osx anyway, Windows versions options are a little less, but still good) then use a good open source dvd writer

    hope it helps
