Messed up direct debit caused late payment on loan

Hi, well I'm in the process of changing my banking to nationwide and they said they would sort transferring all my direct debits and all I had to do was keep a eye on my accounts to ensure there was enough money in both accounts to cover and debits that go out.
Anyway on the 22nd my loan payment should of gone out and it didn't, so I rang the company the loan is with and asked if there was a problem with the direct debit and was told it was all set up and payment was probably just a bit late going through as the new direct debit was only set up on the 19th and payments took up to 5 days to go through. I waited till the 26th and the payment still hasn't been taken so I rang again and they said I hadnt made the payment so it was now with collections!! I made the payment there and then, but they couldn't tell me if this would show on my credit report as a late payment and if it did it was nationwides fault as they hadn't sorted the dd in time.
My job is dependent on me having a excellent credit report and we are hoping to get a mortgage soon so I don't want something that wasn't my fault being on my report!
Can anyone tell me if this will go on my report?, how long it will take to show up? and if it does how can I get it removed!
Thanks for any advice
