I had both Debenhams and C&A store cards may years ago. I have no record of them any longer but know the C&A account was by bank of Scotland, Has anyone got anywhere trying to claim on store card,,particularly those from 20 years ago that I know I paid insurance on.

Store cards weren't regulated until after January 2005, so most fo them are rejected.
What you do is complain to the current owner, more oftne than not, that's santander these days, then when they reject you, you complain to the insurers.
If you have no documentation, you will have to send a SAR and £10 to see if there's anything left.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0
