2 banks say no to refund... should I appeal?

a couple of months ago I got a letter off Barclays saying I may have been missold PPI on a loan I took out in branch. I filled in the form stating I wasnt aware I had it (which I wasn't) they came back to me and said I am not entitled to a refund as they done a survey and from that survey they completed in store, I was eligable for PPI which I agreed to (eventhough I can't remember this happening, plus I had some over for my employment in regards to sickness pay)
I recently had a similar letter from MBNA who advised I may have been missold on a credit card ( I think this was n I took out in a retail store, but can't remember)
They declined me on this account as they state, I ticked the box and signed up for it (again do not agree I would do this as I have employed cover) they also say that my employment cover wouldn't be enough to cover me (its 2 months full pay, plus 10 months stat sick pay) and that I could have cancelled at any time as it is clearly shown on my statements each month.
would you appeal?
I am new to this PPI thing, as I didn't think I had this on any credit account I ever had.
Do people still win if they appeal it, if the banks are saying you should have noticed on your statement as an excuse?
thank you for any replies, I am not sure what to do

If you could have afforded the repayments with a good sick scheme or savings or another income appeal. If you didn't understand what ti was, or you weren't givenan adequate explanation of what it was, appeal.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0

thank you for the reply.
I think I am going to reply as I know I wouldn't have taken PPI with any loan/card I apply for, due to my work sick pay policy and my circumstances at the time.
I suppose I have nothing to lose other than my time.0
