Virgin atlantic flight upgrade cost

Hi all,
I am jetting off on my honeymoon soon with virgin, from London Gatwick to Cancun Mexico.
I know that the days of free upgrades for honeymooners appear to be long gone but does anyone have a rough idea how much it costs on average to upgrade from economy to premium economy? I had a look on the virgin website and it only said a very broad figure (something like £10-£2000 dependent on flight, for example!)
We hardly ever fly and I have certainly never attempted to upgrade so I really have no idea what are the chances of getting one and how much it may cost, but I thought it would be a great way to kick off the honeymoon
Thanks in advance for any advice anyone can give me

Have you tried that new fangled telephone device?0

also depends how the flight was purchased...direct from Virgin Atlantic?, through Virgin Holidays as part of a package?, or a 3rd party travel site?0

If they have availability, they will sell upgrades at check in. Last time I flew BA to Orlando, it was £189 pp to upgrade to premium economy, and worth every penny. The seats were comfortable with plenty of legroom, the food came from business class, and the luggage got priority. We were among the first off at Orlando, so almost at the head of the queue for immigration.0

the food came from business class
Was there something wrong in Club class? Normally CW and PE dont have the same food.
Totally free upgrades are fairly rare due to the tax the airline has to pay whether they charge you or not for it. How much you will have to pay is more or less anyones guess as it'll depend how many spare seats they have less and what category your ticket is etc.
Even the top tier of virgin atlantic's club require to be doing double the normal number of flights to get a single upgrade voucher per year.0 -

PE/ WT+ has the same main course as CW. This has been the case for at least eighteen months.0 -

Ok, haven't flown BA for a while as current client prefers VS0 -
For London to NYC it is usually just over double ie £450 economy or £900 premium economy.....because they can I suppose0

Either log into my booking on the website to see what's available.prices, or give VS a call.
They will tell you exactly how much it is.No point anyone here giving you figures which may/may not apply to your specific flight and fare bucket.0 -
a lot of it depends on what you paid originally. Virgin tend to work of fare codes and if you booked a cheap economy ticket it will cost more to upgrade to a PE or UC, you tend to need to pay the difference between the cheapest economy and the cheapest upgradable econony fare and then pay the difference between the EC and PE ticket.
Sometime you can use miles but often the above still kicks in, quite often its cheapest to buy the PE or UC ticket rather than upgrade. We have just come back from our honeymoon in mexico and we got an low fare UC ticket and that was about £1500 each. Well worth it for the honeymoon.0 -
When I went to Tokyo with VA a few years back, the supplement was only £150 pp each way and was well worth it for PE.
I recently checked to go again and PE was pretty much double economy. Really incredible!0
