For albums that you have ripped yourself there will not be any images made at the time, a music player may not recognise the titles and find the images on the net either...

(many downloaded albums include a cover photo in the package)

You could use an album cover search engine like this...
    http://www.cdcovers.cc/

when you find the album, there is usually a small image of the cover show which is all you need, right click on it in the browser and save to computer, preferably renaming it to the album title as you go.

If you place these thumbnail images in their respective album folders on the tablet, most music player apps will display it when needed (may need to shutdown and restart tablet to get it to scan the folders and see the changes)

However if you use Google play music app it will automatically get covers etc. I was quite impressed with it, you can create playlists on your main computer and selectively sync to your phone etc. It takes your own rips, anything you download, and anything you buy online.

Poweramp - for which there is a free trial and is the best music app imho - will search for album covers and let you attach the one you want.

have installed this and it's just what i was after, but after the free trial is over? i will still have to use the music file on the tablet which has no album covers. which is google music player and was pre-installed

Cover Art Grabber is good for getting cover art for albums on your phone. You need to have both the album and artist details, otherwise you'll get random art work.

Probably best if you install it to select Album and go through each one that doesn't have art work.

Have a look at it here - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mobi.infolife.itagcover&hl=en-GB
Sometimes i surprise myself by being right.
