Wedding Contacts!!

We are planning to marry in July 2015 and received the contract from our venue today. We are concerned by the clause that covers Price, it states that they "reserve the right to change any prices without notice. The prices applicable to your booking of the venue will be those in force at the time of your booking; for food & services, prices will be those in force at the time of the event. They reserve the right to increase prices at any time in accordance with increases in VAT, duty, inflation or increases in food or wine costs between the time of booking and the event" is this something to worry about and could they just demand more money from us without having to prove the increases?

Yes. Increases tend to be 10%ish per year.

But you're giving yourselves 3 years to save up for that possibility.

I'd take a bet that the actual cost won't be more than 5%, if it's anything at all, however this is only going on inflation, and not taking into account any increases in duty, VAT etc.

Asking them may be the best policy.

We married in 2004 but booked the venue at the end of 2003. There was a similar clause, but we haggled and they agreed to do the food/corkage etc at the 2003 price. But that was 9 months before the wedding - I doubt any venue would hold prices for 3 years. Anything could happen in that time!!

  • They have already given us a price per head and that is from their 2013/2014 package and they have said that they would hold this price for our 2015 date. It was only when we read the T&C's that we saw the possible increase. Also they don't have any prices on the paperwork they want us to sign??

Make sure that this is confirmed in writing.

We're getting married next year in Ukraine, and the culture is so different, I wouldn't want to pass comment on the UK.

    I've been Money Tipped!
We booked our wedding in December 2010 & got married in June 2012. We negotiated with the venue to keep the prices (and even lowered them a fair bit!) and this was all in our contract.

I'd ask your venue to send another contract confirming the price per head you will pay.

3 years to plan a wedding???? Eeeek.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Totally agree, pink. I'd be more concerned about the bride or groom finding some extra-curricular in that time and the whole thing having to be called off than what inflation's going to do the agreed price :D
