Do I have mice in my house? Smell but no sound

Last year we had a minor mice, and then rat problem which started in June. We eventually found the entry point for both (next doors air vent was rotten and we had an uncapped drain where an extension had been built). So far so good and no problems for seven months now. I haven't heard any noises which were very evident before or any signs of rodents. However in one of the downstairs rooms there is a musky smell in the corner which has started in this weather. Could it possibly the smell from the old nest which is obvious in the heat or does this suggest mice again even though there is no noise etc??? I have actively plugged any slight exterior holes in the mortar around this room with wire wool just in case!! Thanks for any experience with this.
