I can't believe she has not had any paperwork from the council in nineteen years, or that she has not updated them of a change in circumstance in that time.
Given the reactive nature of you providing the paperwork, I doubt a letter would suffice. Where are you registered as living with your bank/ doctor etc?
I don't know, ask her doctor - I'm sure her medical report is through the roof - we live in a world where only doctors get to say if someone is mental or not, yet these doctors are not the people who have lived with my Mum.
I have always been registered at my home address (where my mum claims benefit). I didn't see a point in changing the address as I'm only renting a room, I didn't want all of my post/bills to go through my friend's letterbox.0 -
I don't have proof of when I moved, but I could ask my friend to write a letter, would that not suffice?
Do you mean you cannot prove the date or you cannot prove you moved at all?
where are you on the electoral roll?
if you moved so far away, did you not change doctors?
are all your details are still registered at your mothers address?
Does your friend claim single persons discount on their council tax?0 -

In that case I think you are really going to struggle - the majority of the evidence points to you still living there.
If your mum is unwell you should look into how you can help her - calling her 'mental' does not seem very helpful.0 -

What do you think I'm doing right now? I'm posting here not to help myself, but to help my Mum avoid paying such a large amount of money to the council. I'm not calling her "mental" I just don't want her health to be the focus of this discussion, as it's not why I'm posting here. It's her doctor who should be providing her with help and diagnosing her correctly, so what word would you choose to sum up a mental illness? As I said, my Mother doesn't understand all these long winded terms and conditions, etc etc...so I just want to try and get the cost of £4,000 down to something a little more reasonable, as we will be forever paying off this debt.
I know it's going to be difficult, there's not much proof to say I wasn't living at the address, but I don't know what else I could do to prove that I wasn't.0 -
what address did your work have for you? no bank statements or anything going to your new address? I think if you can't prove your mother may just have to pay up (or you i suppose)
The other issue is the under occupancy of her home now. It would be better for he to now get a 2 bedroom. (not that easy but long term its something to look into)
Yes she should get a 25% discount for council tax with your sis being full time student.
You may have to help her sort these things out or take her along to CAB0 -

Who has helped her with other paperwork? How does she complete job application forms?
GPs can only help if you tell them there is a problem. It sounds like she needs a referral to the Community Mental Health Team. Perhaps you could go with her and ask about this?0 -

Hello,
I can provide them with the date as it's when I started my employment, but I can only get my friend to write a letter as I don't think he contacted the mortgage company to make them aware of me staying at the address. I paid him £200 cash a month to stay at his house.
I assume I'm still at my Mother's address on the electoral roll, but I've never voted.
I haven't seen my doctor in 3 years, I didn't see the point of changing doctor. I've never suffered from any major illnesses.
Yes, all of my letters are registered/sent to my Mother's address, I go back once a week to pick them up.
It looks like the odds are just not in my favour with this.0 -

It's the job centre who help her with completing application forms. I'm sure she has told her GP about the problem, but I'm going to request a full copy of her medical report as I don't feel they are diagnosing her with a mental illness, I just feel they are saying she is suffering from depression - it's obviously more than that, I've lived with her for a majority of my life.
Thank you for your advice, I'll definitely use that.0 -
Has your friend cancelled his council tax single person discount?0

He didn't get a discount, he lives with his partner as well and had to pay full council tax for his band.0
