Free parking in Leeds - possible?

Just returned from a trip to Leeds where parking is a total nightmare! The whole city seems to be painted with yellow lines and the only gaps between them on every road were highly expensive pay and display bays. £4 for 90 minutes!!

Surely there must be some free limited waiting bays or even derestricted roads around the outskirts, but where?

I'd love to visit the city again, but can't afford to if I have to pay so much to park all day on a Saturday. I don't mind a bit of a walk, but the walk from a side street off Kirkstall Road (opposite Yorkshire TV) seemed somewhat excessive.

Any local advice appreciated :)

You could try one of the free parking space search websites - I have found www.freeparkingspace.co.uk to be quite useful, but there are others that may do the job too.
  • alternatively you could get the train :)

That costs £21.70 :( It would only cost me £8 worth of diesel to drive myself there.

The is very little free parking close to the centre. All spaces near the hospital and uni are now very restricted.

Drive to a station with parking. Return rail fare is about £3.

If you have a car full Woodhouse Lane car park is £5 up to 12 hours.

    ok sorry :o
  • There isn't ANY free parking within a mile zone around the city centre, after living there for 7 years I'm really excited to be in a city that doesn't have such ridiculous parking charges! What I can suggest is either parking your car up in Hyde Park and getting the bus into the city at cost of £1e/w and just a 5 minute journey, or the car park on Woodhouse Lane charges £5 for all day parking which is the cheapest I ever came across and used it when I went to work.

There is also a chance-taking game where you can see if there is a colleauge working the barrier on the car park for Morrissons, if they aren't there then you can park for free.

You could park at the White rose and get a bus in.

There are some side streets around Kirkstall Road and on the Armley industial estate, but these fill up early. If you turn up after 8am, you've had it.

Park & Train isn't bad around Leeds. New Pudsey has a sizeable car park (and if full, you can use the Owlcotes Centre next door). Morley, Garforth and a few other stations also have decent car parks.

Free parking in and around the city (during the day) is very minimal - as it is in most major cities - but a few options:

Kirkstall Road car park - £2.50 all day.
Globe Road / Wellington Road - number of car parks ranging from £3.50 - £4.50 per day.
Woodhouse Lane multi-story (next to Leeds Arena) - £5 for 12 hours

Fortunately, I have a space in the city centre paid for by my employer :)

Fortunately I've got a motorbike so get free parking 20 yards from the office door.

This officially makes me a lazy, smug bas***d and is a totally useless bit of info for the OP
