Hi all,
I'm looking for a good quality 240l wheelie bin. Infortunately, my council no longer provides them.
There are loads of them available online.not sure of the quality though...any recommendations?

If the council no longer provides them, then who will empty it for you?
If they've moved on to communal bins, as one of my local councils has, surely the refuse lorries will be set up to cope with these, rather than the regular type?0 -

We need to put the bags out I think. I noticed a couple of wheelie bins outside other houses though.
I need one to keep my bags all in one place. Also, we have foxes rummage stuff sometimes. There is more to life than increasing its speed.0 -
COSTCO had them a while back.
Otherwise, have you tried this place:

Very unusal for a council to move away from wheelie bins- thought they were here to stay!
If it doesnt have to a be a wheelie bin would you consider a couple of old school dustbins? Must be cheaper and easily available?0 -
:eek:The 1st thing to do is to find out FOR SURE what your local council policy is on how they collect refuse, and FROM WHAT:(
If it is wheelie bins then I believe they have a duty to supply one;)Signature removed0 -

In many cases, the councils are sticking to wheelie bins, however in areas with difficult access (such as Mews properties with paths, not roads) then communal bins are becoming more and more popular (I bought two BTL properties last year that are now switching to this system with the relevant local council)
I believe the lorries in the abovementioned council are dual-purpose, however I will check with a Cllr with responsibility for this area when I'm back in the UK (end of August)

Not necessarily.
Glasgow council have used wheelie bins for a while, and they were supplied to residents at the outset, but now, for new properties, or if the original supplied bin is "lost", only council tenants are automatically supplied with a "general refuse" bin. Others now have to purchase a bin from the council at a cost of something like £37.
Garden waste bins and recycling bins are supplied free on request.
Each house will therefore have up to 4 bins, finding a place to keep them all is now the main problem!0 -
Nick one late at night when bin day comes around, that seems fairly standard practice.
:D;)
I have a spare 1, the council left 2 at 1 house in the road, no one claimed it so..................
I justify keeping by the fact that I fill it with anything not specifically recycle-able or land fill.
Strap the lid down, in the car, and off to the tip to dump it myself.
We had a phase when they supplied blue boxes for bottles and paper, didn't last long, and they never collected them, most took their's to the dump eventually, I kept mine and several others, very handy, good strong tubs.
Don't read any further or comment if you don't like threads that go off topic, but I have a few minutes to kill so;
True story;
Friend has a small holding. His house is 200 yds of the nearest lane.
He has to collect post and leave bins at the laneside.
Has a 9-5 job, so on his way out on bin day he hooks the bin, (we only had 1 type back then), onto the towing eye of his 4x4.
Tows it to the lane and leaves it there, picks it up on his way back home.
Good enough plan but one day he forgot to drop it off.
Now he only had about 1/4 mile to get onto the main A1 for his 10 mile commute.
Ok for a while but about 5 miles up the road there was a noise from the back, and an increasing number of head lights flashing at him.
He remembered and stopped at the nearest pull off.
The noise was the bin dragging on the road on one side, it's wheel had gone, the axle has melted, the other was welded solid.
Due to stuff in the car he couldn't carry it in the boot, so decided the best thing was to leave it and pick it up in the evening, which he did.
What he didn't know was that someone had seen him, thought he was fly-tipping, took his number and reported him to the police.
They were knocking on the door the next day, but if I recall correctly the fact that he had the full bin, and the state of it's under carriage convinced them of his story
You don't have to believe it but it is true,:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
