    Yes you do have rights.

    However this guy sounds like hes going to play hardball.

    Ring trading standards, ring citizens advice, but be prepared for a lot of short term hassle to get it sorted.

    The trader is totally in the wrong here. You are entitled to a full refund.

    The dealer will tell you it needs a new one that costs more than the cars worth. But you can get 2nd hand ones for a fraction of that money.

    Its an older car for under £1000 so you are going to get repair bills, Whether a private or a trader.

    Stick some for sale notices in the window listing all the faults and the name of the trader and park it outside his house.

    problem you got is not worth going court or waste money because he wont be forced to pay a dime so you be wasting your time and most likely he closing is business
