On the old system, anyone on a low income (which varied according to your circumstances) could get a fee waiver, yes. I'm not sure if this was reassessed each year or not. For those entitled to help prior to 2012, they can continue to receive it unless they take a break in study, in which case they would go on to the new system (based on loans).

I did take a break so god know what I am on, when signing up last month it mentioned grant, I was awarded a grant, it never mentioned anything about a loan.

If you are being quoted £490 per module you are definitely on the old system. Have they confirmed your funding will run out before you complete your course?

Yeah they emailed me to say I had been awarded it for this year but its worded in a way that implies I need to up my study.

We advise you to discuss your study plans with your Learner Support Team (contact details available on StudentHome) to ensure you are studying the appropriate modules towards your qualification aim and at the correct level of intensity. If at any point during your studies it becomes apparent that you are no longer able to achieve your qualification within the time remaining, financial support will be withdrawn.

I think 60 credits is ample for someone working full time. I couldn't afford to pay for another 60 credits myself. By the sounds of that email I will be lucky to get funding for next year.

I think you need to call them and talk to them to find out what your options actually are as this is the only way to put your mind at rest.
Only the OU can confirm if you will run out of time dependent on your actual modules/study record.
