Finally was able to get the readings for our last year readings -

Gas - 12733KWH
Electric - 8314kwh

Half of the year though had limited usage as no one was staying at the house and there were old storage heaters using Economy 7 (now replaced with a gas central heating system).

Another factor into what price plan for us to take is that there will no longer be a gas hob in the house which has been replaced by an induction hob.

We was thinking of going for the Blue + Price Promise for either until 2014 or 2016 (EDF) however British Gas has an offer at the moment which also gives a free smart meter.

What options do you all think would be best for us with our usage?

Thanks

Will a "free" smart meter save you as much money as one or more of the other tariffs. Nice to have but not worth it if the tariff costs you more. I'd guess that your electricity consumption will drop by quite a bit and your gas is likely to increase by a bit, so it might be worth try two or three scenarios with different consumptions (eg electric about 3500kw and gas about 16500kw) to see if the deals still pan out.

You need to keep reading and recording the meters and sending the info to whoever you get to supply your energy on a monthly basis so you can keep on top of your bills and ensure that your estimates & DD's cover your usage and so you don't end up with a ginormouse bill at the end of the year.
Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers

Use a comparison site to find the best deal for you.

All smart meters will be installed free when they are rolled out.
  • A smart meter may save you money, if you use it and pay attention to what you are consuming. A great tool for modifying behaviour.
