Nexus 7 issues with screen & audio...PLS HELP!

Hi.

I just sold my Kindle Fire HD and want a new tablet.

I am planning on buying (again) the older-model Nexus 7; had problems before with screen brightness/contrast/sharpness. The speakers sound also seems tiny/weak & muffled (as if your covering your mouth when listening to it). The same issues i have been reading over & over from reviews and videos.

I'm well aware the "new" Nexus 7 is coming but not till September in the UK i heard.

So, Is there a way to "correct" or tweak the screen issues and the speakers sound without rooting the device?

Or shall i get another good dual-core/quad-core tab for my basic needs?

Please advice. Thanks.

I have an idea, go and look at the screen see if it's a problem to you, then listen to the audio and see if it's a problem, then decide if you are going to buy it

oops, sorry I forgot you had one and then sold, or didn't quite sell it or something...

you might find some answers in the thread about buying an ipad mini after selling the nexus, or not selling it or whatever...

I would like to buy one again as i miss the thing, would like something i can use before the new one comes in and i assume such & such issues might have been "fixed" b y Google since the last time i used it.

there were some reports of the brightness issues after the update to 4.2 - did you have any problems with the screen before you sold it?? supposedly it wasn't wide spread and is fixed with a reinstall
the speakers are small and that is a hardware issue, which hasn't changed as it's only a big problem if you turn the speakers up to full volume, how you don't know this after owning one i'm not sure
I wouldn't have thought the new one will be any different, external speakers or headphones are a much better solution for sound quality anyway.
I'm surprised that someone with as much knowledge as you, and someone who wants a career in writing gadget review, can't figure stuff out for themselves... mental

I do not agree with your assessment that i "can't figure stuff out".

I HAD (past tense) a Nexus 7 roughly 8 months ago. I bought it over via Google direct. Had issues with the screen (as described above) and the speakers (as described above). I can only describe subjectively which technically means having the thing myself and using it.

Now, if the countless reviews & videos on the internet (from well known sites and not just those other sites) doesn't explain the problems like mine then i don;t know what will.

I am merely asking if there is now a solution to the issue or if a software update (from the time i sold it till now) has been released and fixed or at least addressed the issue.

as explained, the brightness thing should be fixed with a hard reset - but did you actually have any problems with it personally??
and did you have problems with the speakers?? as they haven't changed because it's HARDWARE problems and not software

stop reading things on the internet and experience them yourself! I'd actually be surprised if you've owned any of the devices you claim to and are just too scared to buy anything because someone somewhere on the internet has found a tiny issue with it, remember the hdmi cable thread?!

your threads are worse than spam

and i say you can't figure stuff out because it is clearly obvious that you only rely on the internet to form opinions rather than experiencing anything!

Listen very carefully, I shall say this only once.
A little bluetooth speaker improves the sound no end.
    Everything works better with bluetooth.

The autobrightness on my Nexus is a bit iffy so I never have it set to that. The resolution of the new Nexus 7 will be much better than the current model (which seems fine to me for my purposes anyway).

I wouldn't expect the speakers on any tablet to be up to much - external speaker or headphones are the answer to that if you need better.

I had a Kindle Fire HD and specs wise the screen and the speakers (i.e. Dolby) are way much better than the "old" Nexus 7. Why did i say that? Because i happened to own or used to own them. Now, i'm back having the "old" Nexus 7.

Hard reset for me has always been the "default" advice whenever something is wrong with something on a device. Why? I wish i know the answer to that. For me it doesn't always or almost certainly no help given to me at all.

The Nexus 7 i bought yesterday seems to be "so far so good". No muffled speakers sound although even on a quiet weekend inside a double-insulated flat i find myself still "wanting" for more sound. I'm not looking for a Beats audio or a boombox kinda sound mind you. For me its still that weak & tiny. Even with headphones on. I do not see the point or need of a bluetooth speaker whenever i listen to my N7. Why should i? Perhaps if i am listening to an internet radio or watching a movie yes. But that doesn't happen all the time.

I know there are a lot of apps out there to tweak or "improve" the screen brightness/sharpness/contrast. And i found that putting the brightness at least to 50% (and not set to auto) does help a little. With the brightness. And not the overall sharpness or contrast if you like.

I don't recall ever seeing an app that claimed all of those - do you remember what any of them were called?

BTW Nexus screen res is 1280 x 800 which is identical to the Kindle Fire HD
