Part P rules for shower install

Hi,

We had a shower installed by someone we understood to be part p registered. However, he is has been rather evasive in sending the paperwork through (It is now over 3 months later). He has now (just)sent us an electronic copy i.e. not signed although it is sent from his email address.

Am I right in saying we should have a signed copy? I can't seem to find the info online about what it should actually look like.

Any help appreciated.

Either the electrician should have been a member of one of the electrician's trade bodies, in which case you should receive a copy of the installation certificate from that trade body.

Or you should have notified your council's building control in advance, and paid them the fee to inspect the new installation.

If neither applies, then you've broken the building regs.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

slight concern on reading this. We recently upgraded our shower to a 10.8 I think it was and had an electrician in to change the cable from 6mm to 10mm. The only paper work I have from the plumber is for the shower fitting plus the other work he did. I paid the sparks separately. so have I gone wrong somewhere with the regulations??

It's good that you arranged the electrical work separately however, you should have received some paperwork (Minor Works Certificate) for the cable upgrade. Especially since it's to a defined special zone.

He said he was part p registered and that he could certify the work.

He has provided a certificate, but is electronic (so no signatures - just typed in) and has a reference number and it looks like it should have a certificate number where it says 'original certificate'.

I can't find any information about what sort of format this needs to be in and I'm worried what we now have is incomplete.

If you can find out which electrical organisation they are a member of, you should be able to check the validity of that certificate with the reference number.
