Issue with DFS sofa

had a corner sofa delivered Wed. As it didn't appear to take up as much room as I had anticipated I measured it against the sizing on the DFS website.

It is 12cm shorter than it should be width ways, 5cm shorter at narrowest point depth wise and 6cm shorter at the longest point depth wise. I realise the sizes quoted are approximate however I do not consider the size of the sofa to be acceptable.

The service manager is coming on Monday to have a look so I would like to have some idea re my rights.

Can I insist on a refund? I paid by credit card. Or if they offer to replace it do I have to accept that offer?

Having waited 8 weeks I don't particularly want to have to wait another 8 weeks for a new sofa especially if they cannot guarantee it will be near enough the right size.

Having already had to take a days leave for Monday & possibly having to take another if they agree to replace or refund would it be reasonable to ask for compensation for the inconvenience?

I would be grateful for any advice. Thanks

Work out how much per cm sofa has cost you & deduct what you feel are the missing cms from the price & ask for that amount to be refunded to you.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

It can depend on how your measuring - the front to back depth is usually the tricky one as this should include the cushion overhang at the front, this is usually around 5 cm.

As for length are you measuring from the very outer side of the arm to the same on the other side?

You could always argue that its not as described and maybe ask for a part refund if you keep it.

If it were me though I would send it back, but then again I would never buy a suite from DFS.

I'd be inclined to agree - approximate sizes is fine, but 2-5 inches in each dimension isn't a random variation, but just too blinkin' small.

Keep copies of all the website sizing etc., in case you need them for court.

The sizes don't apply to the box it comes in, or something, do they?

No they are the external of Width, depth and height.
Sometimes if the piece has a rake (leans out at the back) you should push it up against a wall so it includes the rake, then measure from the wall to include the overhang for front to back measure)

Thanks for your advice however I think you are missing the point. The sofa isn't the size I ordered. I choose it because it was the ideal size for where I wanted to put it. The sofa if roughly the advertised size would sit nicely in the recess in my room however the one delivered doesn't, there is a large gap. It was in fact the gap that initially alerted me to the fact that the sizing was out. In addition the sofa isn't as comfortable due to the loss of 2-3 inches depth wise. I have long legs and its makes a difference comfort wise.

We measured from the outer edge of the cushioned part of the arms, and yes we did include the over hang of the cushion depth wise.

Having called into the store this morning the sofa on display is noticeably larger.

I don't want to keep it as it isn't as comfortable as I had hoped, this is due to the couple of inches lacking depth wise. I have rather long legs It also doesn't really sit as well space wise due to the 5 inches missing from the width.

Have to say that this is the third sofa I have purchased from DFS, no problems with either of the others which is why I was prepared to go to them again.

Perfect advice - do not forget to save their description! They can try to remove or change it!
