Tax credit renewal has come through and I'm worried

My combined salary is 27500 and I have 3 children I recieve £100 a week from working tax credit.

My elder son is going to university so he will be removed from the child element. They have sent me my new amount for the year and for my remaining 2 children will now get £40 a week.

This will leave me £240 a month out of pocket, I am now worried I won't be able to pay bills because of this.

It is crazy how they work out the final amount.

3 children = £400 a month
2 children = £160

As stated above, this is the problem on being over reliant on benefits. If you are £240 out of pocket, you are living beyond your means and you will need to sit down and look at your budget, making cuts where necessary. Many people have to do this. Sorry to be so blunt, but you need to face up to reality.

.........And as a married, working, mortgage-paying woman with no kids?

Zero, zilch, nada, nought, nothing per month in any sort of benefit/tax relief.

    I'm sorry, but Diddums. :(

What bills are you not going to be able to pay? Is it an enormous mortgage/rent that will cause problems?

I have a lot of sympathy for people who find themselves in hardship when their income unexpectedly drops... but this was expected, right? You always knew your income would drop when your eldest went to university - how were you planning to deal with this?

Your eldest now has access to grants/loans/part time work?

Why would you expect child credits for him?

Why does it always come as a huge surprise to people that one day their children will become adults and they will no longer be entitled to child benefit and child tax credit for the said adult?

It may have been your monthly amount would have gone down anyway - mine has dropped by £25 a week and still have all of them at home

Posting on a weekend is a mistake.
You will get all the "why should they" brigade out in force for some old medieval justice enjoyment.
These people are happy you do not have enough money to live off because they are peevish bitter twisted people.

Now some more practical advice, call the helpline with your circumstances written down and ask them to check the calculations, they may have made a mistake.
    Be happy...;)

When your next child fails to qualify its likely you will lose the rest if the CTC as with just one qualifying child you are over the income limit for tax credits.

You would be wise to look at your outgoings and maximise incomings so that you dont need to rely on the CTCs.
