Nationwide Bank Reclaim.... any advice would be lovely

Options
Hi Guys,

I am currently in the process of reclaiming my bank charges from Nationwide.
I have sent all my statements, income/expenditure forms and a supporting letter regarding my financial hardship as requested by the bank. I received a phone call yesterday from Nationwide and this is what i require advice on.
Nationwide charged me so much money on one unpaid £14.00 direct debit in 2010 that it amounted to £547.00, all of which were charges. No upaid direct debits etc, i was charged on my charges. And from 2005 to 2010 I was charged on and off and it amounted to £3600.
The phone call i received yesterday basically told me that although i would appear to have been and still am in financial hardship they cannot see my financial status prior to 2005 as i was not with the bank then.
With this in mind they offered me a deal, if i pay £30, they will write off the £547.00 and call it a full settlement for my credit file. They said that they are not in a position to repay me any money as the account is self managed and my mismanagement is the reason i am in financial hardship. But i still feel that charging me £100 on a £10 -£20 unpaid direct debit is scandalous and that is money which came from my next wage, leaving me £100 short the next month and hello cycle of charges.
Anyway sorry for the essay but i guess what i am asking is does anyone have any experience with Nationwide and is this a deal worth taking or should i try and negotiate further??

Any help would be massively appreciated.

Thanks xx

So you are in financial hardship and they are offering you over £500? (well writing off that amount of debt)

Well done! I suggest you snap their hand off, especially as banks usually only refiund charges incurred within the last 6 months (and even that is not guaranteed).

As above, take the offer and be glad of it. If there is any evidence from your statements that the financial hardship could have been avoided by managing your money/accounts more suitable, then your lucky to have any offer from them
