Really hard time of it lately?

Seem to be doing everything for everyone else at the moment - I am sure many of your share this feeling.

Me and my husband have been niggling A LOT lately. I am knackered and so is he. We have two young demanding children.

It is my birthday coming up and we have the option of having my sister look after the kids overnight so we could go out for the night and stay out or just babysit for the evening.

As always - here's the catch - we are so skint!!! Any ideas/places I can look for a nice cheap hotel or perhaps ideas as to what we could do? Just think when you descend into the swamp -it's hard to get out and plan something. Help please?

I live in Cambridge?

what's your budget? Or what about the kids stopping at your sister o/night, so you can have some peace at home, a nice meal etc;)

cheapest option would be for the kids to go to your sisters over night if that's possible then you don't have to spend any extra or you could then go for a nice meal and enjoy a long lie in the day after.

Sounds like you need some time to yourselves rather than anything else.

    thanks for your replies.

I could get together prob about £60. Unfortunately my sister lives in London and kids are only 3 and 1 so not used to being away from home.

    Would love some ideas.

i have 2 kids so i know where your coming from my 2 year old dd is very hard work and demands all the attention . the weathers good have you got a tent? cheap and fun . also the travel lodge are doing a deal at the moment 15 pounds for a night. i am thinking about doing this for me and boyf.

a night with out the kids sounds great i think i could pretty much sleep anywhere.
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, champagne in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming ~ WOO HOO what a ride!

  • Hi,

How easy is it for you to get to your sisters?

Could she come over to look after the little people at home and you could have a meal at her place?

You have me wishing that I wasn't an only child now! Although I guess not all sisters are as helpful as yours!

Pick a travelodge with a hungry horse/brewsters type place next door.

Have a nap when you get there to freshen you up for the night ahead.

Leave the eating till about 8 oclock-there are far fewer kids running around then.

hungry horse do some nice bottles of wine for about 7 quid, so the meal would perhaps be 35 incl wine, a Travelodge for £15?

Or, if you find it hard to justify spending money thats needed elsewhere take a picnic with you and eat it in bed-like you maybe used to before the kids came along.:o
