4 Gb SDHC Memory Card for Nikon D40

Options
Earlier in the week I hastily bought a 4 GB Memory card and realised, on getting it home, that it is an SDHC card.

According to the manual it seems that this might not be compatible with my Nikon D40.

Just wondering whether anyone can confirm whether this is right or not?

I can take it back to my local shop but if it will work then I shall break open the seal and use it!

Thank you.

It should work fine in the camera
  • It is not really a good idea to fit the largest possible card in your camera. Use a number of smaller ones. If you are on holiday use a new card every day, then if you lose, or get your camera stolen, or if the card goes belly up then you haven't lost ALL your photos.
If at all possible copy them onto another medium ASAP as well.

SD and SDHC should be equally compatible up to 4Gb if I remember right.

Thank you for your replies. My instinct was that it would be fine as it's not a HUGE card. Normally I would upload my photos onto my laptop and into one of my 'clouds' as back-up.

I have the solution right under my nose. I have an Olympus Pen camera which does take SDHC cards so I'll swap it with the one I have in there... took me a long time to figure that one out!

    Much appreciate the responses.

Btw if you're still after a 4GB card, I thought I'd mention it is possible to buy a non SDHC 4GB and it's just a standard SD, they're rare but I managed to buy one off ebay years ago as 4gb is the limit for non SDHC...
