And if the £99 fee is a subscription/annual thing, no-one's going to renew as they won't get any business from it.0

Another good selling point for my directory is the mobile app I have created for it too which a lot of other directory's do not have! (sorry, maybe should have given a better idea in my original post)
So, how many local users are using your mobile app? How many do you expect will download it?
If your website is up and running, what level of traffic are you getting?
More to the point, if there'll only be 5 of each type of business, but you're not quality checking them to ensure they're the best 5, won't the public be turned off by the limited range of each trade on your site? The unspoken implication is that the 5 in your directory are the cream of the crop, but in actual fact, they're merely the ones most receptive to your sales pitch.0 -
There used to be hundreds of such directories and each and every one of them has fallen by the wayside due to them simply not working, if I were you I would not pursue this idea as you would likely only waste your time...
The most famous of these, Yellow Pages is on its knees due to Google listing every thing anyway for free."Don't blink. Blink and you're dead. They are fast. Faster than you can believe. Don't turn your back. Don't look away. And don't blink. Good Luck" - The Doctor.0 -
Put some time into coming up with an idea that will actually provide something of value to your customers.0

That is not to say you will not make anything though, if you have 30 minutes a day to spare you could spend it writing a page or two on cinemas, theatres, supermarkets, and other places that just happen to have affiliate codes so that when people order through you will get a small fee.
I did consider the same with a town website but unfortunately my town is not all that big and if you did try to show someone town information on a site they would try to beat it to death with sticks.
You will need considerable traffic to make this worthwhile, upwards of 1,000 a day would not be unusual.
You can take a look at this site, they are basically community sites but it will give you an idea of what people are looking for.

What are you going to offer people for them to want to join up and chat and maybe browse?
Walking into a shop once you have many people on your site and asking the owner if someone comes in with a code to get a discount would not be unusual, Groupon got very popular a few years ago by doing this.
Restaurants and theatres want bums in seats as it were, they would liekly give a good discount, your people get a cheap dinner or show and they get people through the door."Don't blink. Blink and you're dead. They are fast. Faster than you can believe. Don't turn your back. Don't look away. And don't blink. Good Luck" - The Doctor.0 -
7 sales from spam emails, there's some gullible business owners about if that's true. Most people hate spam, and telemarketers, and shelling out money for nothing. If someone wants to find a business, they google, no app required - plumber london gives 12.8M results.!!
