  • 57 audi is 5/6 year old car, so the economics might be a little different. Buying parts from breakers is cxost effective for 10+ year old common cars. YMMV.

Weigh out the cost of the repair against reduction in trade value. Also bear in mind traders have contracts with repairers and they can get significant volume discounts for work.

this is where your wrong youll find there is no contract to a smart repairer only that they use the same guy to get repour and trade rates and this will based on that repairers labour costs and meterials.

a 57 plate in excellent start off condition i would considder taking the scratch out so theres no room for barter from the garage ooh thats £350 off part ex price mate coz of that scratch in those panels.

It would be ridiculous for the dealer to not negotiate a discounted rate for work based on the volume of work referred. I am in a different industry (equipment hire) and use a resurfacing specialist on some of our equipment and have discounted rates based on how much work we get done per month. It's not a contract - just a price list.

Certainly the dealership will have a heavily reduced rate to what Joe Public will pay if they were to drive into the repair centre. For one thing there's a lot of paperwork, dealing with time wasters, time involved in quoting for work which is a lot more straightforward when dealing with the trade.

a discount rate will be more like -5 to 10% on meterials used doesnt amount to much. there really isnt much money to be had in trade to trade work in the motor industry.
