Apcoa civil parking notice

I parked my car in barnstaple train station car park this morning, paid for my ticket. I got on the train and had a nice morning but only to come back to my car to fine a 'civil parking notice' by apcoa on my car windscreen. It stated that I had exceeded my time limit in a 20 minute free parking space, I looked around and I had failed to notice the 20 minute parking notice on a post and paint on the floor noting that it was a 20 minute zone area (spaces are not individually marked just written in front of several spaces). I just parked at the first bay I come across ( baring in mind the car park is quite large and only had 3 cars in it at most) and like I said never even noticed the signage on the floor or on the post (which was 2 spaces down).
Do I have any leg to stand on if I appeal as I didn't initially notice the signage??
Would be greatful of any helpful words of advice

You may very well have a case for inadequate signage. I suggest that you take some photos and then see if the signs comply with the requirements of the BPA Code of Practice on their web site.
Do nothing until the Notice to Keeper comes - well you can take time to get clued up on POPLA appeals and the BPA COP http://www.britishparking.co.uk/write/Documents/AOS/AOS_CoP_June_2013_update.pdf0 -

Of course you have a leg to stand on! This isn't a real PCN. As long as this is your car (registered keeper with the DVLA) then wait for the Notice to Keeper to arrive.
DO NOT get tempted to appeal yet, we know how to beat these scam fake PCNs.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
