I have an 8083. It's gone wrong twice. First time the engineer came out ithin 48 hours and replaced the DVD drive, no problem.

The second time it crashed "fatal error" I called the help line, they diagnosed a mother board failure, I waited four weeks for them to get the part, when the engineer came it wasn't that at all, he fixed it within 10 mins.

The upshot is, you will not find a better spec for the same money, the engineer said the parts alone would exceed the cost of the PC, he didn't know how they could sell them at this price.

Four weeks is along time to wait to have your PC repaired, the Medion service is appalling, but is anyone else any better??

they buy the parts in bulk and sell the pc's all over europe so i guess they buy a hell of alot and get them cheap. On a side note i bought the aldi pc from november 2004 so 6 months old i tell not a lie ive had the pc on since i got it 24/7 and burned 100s of dvds and music cds, downloading stuff filling hd to max (250gig) deleteing etc and not had one problem with it amazing pc my brother is now going to get one. Also i know someone who bought one in early 2002 and uses it everyday and not had a problem. cant beat them i think.

Had 2 Medion pc's now, including the new Aldi. Superb pc's, never had a single problem. Same goes for my other medion stuff.

I bought one too! The hardware side is excellent - I still have not got round to playing with the TV card side of things (the remote control is bigger than any of the others in the house and could work the Space shuttle)!

The included software package was very good too - a broad selection of programmes that you would actually want!

I was particularly pleased to find that as well as having a recovery disc (to reset things back to square one using data recored on the computer), you also get the operating system - Win XP Home and drivers on 2 discs. In addition, you get another sealed disc containing all the pre-installed software packages.

I've been looking at the ALDI offerings and the PC spec looks pretty good. Only problem is there is no ALDI near where I live. Medion are not selling this PC on their site and re-direct you to ALDI. Is there any other way of buying the PC? I'm guessing ALDI don't do mail order?

It looks a fair price to me, to buy all the bits and build it yourself would cost a little less but you would not have 3yrs warranty. However after adding the price of a decent TFT to this you are talking about the best part of £1000.

There are but, but remember London is a big place with lots of traffic, so they would be pretty hard to get to.

What part of London are you in? I accept they're not that widespead, but if you want to get this, it's worth the drive. I don't know North London, but in the south, there's Feltham - 5 mins walk from the station which is about 25 mins on the train from Vauxhall. Theres the Old Kent Road and Swanley. The stores are open on Sunday and have free car parks - also no need to rush on Thursday morning as I don't think they'll seel out and if they do they take orders up to a week later. A great PC if you need it!

I doubt you could buy the bits for £750 - you certainly won't get Bill Gates to give you the software for nothing - this alone will add another £200 - £300!

Yes, when I was doing courier work in London I was driving there each day from Farnborough in Hampshire, so I do have a reasonable idea of the times and distances involved ;)

Another Medion PC user here. Have had mine for 4 years now and despite the daily abuse and the fact that I have 12 USB ports hanging off it with all sorts of things plugged in it has never given me a day of trouble (although now that I have typed this it is guaranteed to keel over in the next week or so). The various components seem to be well matched.
