Painting the railings

Just about to paint the railings etc. round our patio decking. Only did it a year ago and it is peeling off quite badly in parts. One side is heavily exposed to the sun (when we have some) but to be honest it is quite bad all round. When it peels off the exposed wood is of its original colour as if the treatment we put on just sat on the top and did not soak in. We have used well known brands of wood treatment in the past but wonder if any one has a product that they can recommend that can do the job better.

I used Cuprinol Shades on decking railings two years ago and it is still in reasonably good condition.
I did two coats.
It probably won't need redoing for another few years.0 -
When i've painted railings in the past i found if you get an old pair of gloves and just dip your hands in the paint you can rub the paint on all around, much easier and quicker than trying to use a paintbrush.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.

We need to differentiate here, the OP has "painted" the railings, He hasn't stained with such as the cuprinol product in the link by avoirez.
That changes everything, strip off and redo with preservative stain or repaint...
...every couple of yearsI like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -

My husband has just telephoned Ronseal helpline and they are sending a litre tin of Ronseal 5 year Woodstain for us to try.
Very pleasant and helpful and delighted with result.
Thanks to all who took trouble to reply to my original post.0 -
