Curtains- distance between window and curtain pole

hi

looking for some curtains in new home. gonna be plenty of questions but will create a new thread as and when questions are "arise"! :D

basically we are struggling to find curtains with right sizes. our window and patio door seems to be of non-standard size and if we were to stick to the guides available on net we will end up having made to measure curtains in most rooms or alter curtains.

first question is what distance should be there between top of window / patio doors and curtain pole.

You need sufficient height above the window/door reveal so that the top of the curtain is at least above the reveal. So you need to allow for the diameter of the ring plus the length of the hook to ensure the header tape is above the window. By adjusting this height i.e. raising the height of the pole will give you flexibility on the drop of the curtain. If you have sufficient room between the top of the window and the ceiling you may be able to buy off the shelf curtains that can be hung to the correct drop. That is buy curtains too long and fixing the pole at a suitable height you achieve the correct drop.

The distance of the pole away from the wall will be dictated by the size of the brackets.

My rails are approx 5 ins above the top of the window. You can hang them using any of the 3 loops in the tape/ heading to adjust height.

What online guides are you looking at? What are your actual window sizes?

Why start new threads for each question? best to keep it in one place.

I mounted my rails close to the ceiling, so that the top of the curtain virtually touches the ceiling and hangs down to virtually touching the floor. It gives a neater and more 'fitted' look and makes the room look taller in my opinion.
