How long to fit 'fast-fit' shower?
JustLikeThat
The local plumber has taken almost 3 hours so far to fit a Triton fast-fit shower, which seems excessive seeing it is made so all previous shower connections are easily utilized for the new one. No electric changes are involved. Am I not appreciating something? I am being charged by time and the original estimate for labour was £75-£100

If it's a straight swap no longer than an hour & that inc drinking two cups of tea, of course he's winging it if you are paying by the hour, you should have got a fixed price or a plumber that knew what he was doingI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -
So what is his hourly rate-he may still be within that £75-100 window even at 3 hours?
You effectively gave him carte blanche to take all day by not asking for a fixed price quotation.
Have you asked him why it took so long-were there any unforeseen problems? No free lunch, and no free laptop

Ask before not after, tradesmen can be rogues, but so can customers.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
Thanks for responses. I did ask for a quote and that's when he said £75-£100 as it would take more than the hour I suggested. I assumed the range of the estimate indicated it was based on time. In the end he charged £100. Is this high for installing this fast-fit (easy-fit) shower?
It's done now I know, but your answers may determine whether we use him again in the future.0 -
No, you got a good price for the plumber. Looks like it wasn't straight forward, but then again I know how The Hobbit works and if he estimates an hour or part thereof and the job takes three, he charges the hour. No such thing as a quick fit, replacing like for like, should be breeze. not always so. I have known the Hobbit not even to charge for a job, just a cuppa will do. Oh he always cleans up he has finished a job, well Mr Henry goes everywhere with him as does the brush and pan and any cleaner he might have to use after the job is finished.0

It takes as long as it takes. There is no magic wand waving. You were given a price and the bill came in at the top of the estimate. I think you did fine and really shouldn't be worrying about this tbh. Life's too short.
