PPI - Is it worth it?

I was in debt for a while between 2000 until 2010. During that time I had:
Loans/CC with HSBC
Loan with Citifinancial
Store card with Evans
CC with Capital One
The trouble is, other than the HSBC one which has been re-financed a few times to make use of better rates they are all over 6 years old now and I have destroyed any paperwork pertaining to them.
I'm also pretty sure I didn't have PPI on the loans, but I wouldn't have put it past Capital One or the Evans lot to have whacked it on without my knowledge.
I don't mind doing the paperwork myself, but it seems a lot of effort for what could essentially be, a waste of time. Would it just be easier to give vague details to a company wanting 15% of the claim and get them to try to track them down?

NO, all they do is stick a stamp on the envelope containing the vague details you've supplied and post it off to the relevant bank They do nothing you can't do yourself, they don't have some magic formula, you still have to do all the work.0 -

It was so long ago, and I was so young back then that all I did was pay what they told me told. Rarely looked into things, a habit I'd like to say I'm out of!0 -

doing a couple of forms/letters is hardly a 'lot of effort' esp when the reward may be £100s. That is quite lazy0 -
Re evans card - if it was GE capital bank, ring up Santander
They traced my card from 1996!
Santander reject your complaint as it was prior to regs of 2005
I passed mine on to underwriter as they were regulated and they paid up0 -
You won't find a company taking on your complaints for less than 30%....Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0
