And write to your MP to highlight the havoc caused by the utter indifference of the bank to the plight of their innocent customer.0 -
I had a similar problem some years back and asked the bank for some cash for the weekend. No!
I then said ''OK I will go into a branch at about 3.00pm and I will sit there until you close and even then will not move until I get the cash I want/need and also I'll have my friend with me who is a journalist with a local paper for when you call the police''
Got the cash.
If not feasible can his work give him an advance of pay through a cashable order or cash ?0 -
Might be long shot but try taking the letters saying you'll have bailiffs at your door if payments aren't made by Wednesday.
The bank will have frozen your a/c to protect you from anymore fraudulant activity, but I'm surprised that they haven't got some way of allowing regular DD's & SO's out as well as giving you cash over the counter to buy household essentials.
I see you're with HSBC, I've been having problems with them as well. They didn't change my address even though I went into local branch with proof of new address September last year, then back in May they stopped my debit card with no warning, I could only get money from ATM's. I opened bank a/c with Lloyds, had a couple of problems but staff were really helpful and explained what had happened and how long it'd take to get sorted. This morning I can't get into HSBC online banking to transfer my Tax Credits to Lloyds a/c (need to ring Tax Credits to change bank details) and we need to get food & nappies as well.0 -
Open a basic account online and get your money paid into this new account. I am speaking from experience here, at least you will have access to money.
Harass the bank. better still go to the Head Office use the Chief Executive's office. The number is listed and do not be put off by anyone, You make yourself so unpopular with the bank. Branch level wont budge. Involve the media and the police, ring them every day if you have to.
Send a recorded delivery letter to the Head Office addressed to the Cheif Executive, send photocopies of the demands for the failed payments, cc this to the FCA, (they can't do anything to assist, but it will then be on the bank's file). In the letter state what you what and the timescale for things to be rectified.
I hope this helps.0 -
They've frozen the accounts because one of the fraudulent loans was from HSBC, and they want to take the money in the accounts to offset their losses. The bank will have frozen your a/c to protect you from anymore fraudulant activity
They'll say the OP's husband must have been negligent to get his ID stolen, or if they can't get negligence, they'll say it must have been collusion.
Otherwise, it would have been routine to set up new accounts. But the branch has clearly been told not to do that."It will take, five, 10, 15 years to get back to where we need to be. But it's no longer the individual banks that are in the wrong, it's the banking industry as a whole." - Steven Cooper, head of personal and business banking at Barclays, talking to Martin Lewis0 -

That's right, banks freeze accounts to steal the money in them...
Can I interest you in a tin foil hat, to stopp the aliens stealing your thoughts?0 -
Thanks for all your replies.
HSBC allowed us to give them details of the bills we needed paying & paid them via BACS today but still wouldn't give us cash. They've asked us to go in and sign some paperwork tomorrow so we can access our money?!?
We're in the process of changing accounts but I'm reluctant to do it online after all this & am going in to store. We've also written to the chief executive and financial ombudsman so fingers crossed.0 -
Glad HSBC have allowed your bills to be paid, hope they allow you to get the rest of your money today. Opening new accounts with different bank is a good idea.0
