Knock Sensor
Options
Hi, our knock sensor 'went' on our car a good year ago now. At the time we were told not to bother getting it replaced if we didn't want to (by a specialist mechanic), as the sensor was only starting to get a bit 'dodgy.'
Now a year on, would it be advisable to get it replaced before MOT in September or can we get away with it for another year?

Don't think much of your specialist mechanic as most knock sensors are relatively cheap and easy to fit. The past year your car has not been running at peak performance and it has been relying on default settings to run. The knock sensor helps allow the ecu to run the engine up to almost maximum advance with it being brought back from too advanced by the signal from the sensor. Getting the sensor changed will help recoup the performance and fuel economy you've lost.0
