This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.
Morning all,
Very hot here already seems we are in for another scorcher :T.
Big news I was made redundant yesterday, I knew it was coming for a while but could not put anything on here as I think someone from work reads this and all would be reported back. Anyhoo I am now free and although I shall miss the people I worked with, the sense of relief I am feeling at not having to go back there is huge, it became a struggle to work there, and unfortunatly most of the people felt the same. So onwards and upwards for me, I need to find another job pronto so shall be keeping an eye on the work situation.
Hilstep I am so sorry to hear your news, I hope that the treatment is painfree and you are soon on the mend xx
So On my first day of freedom I am not sure what to do, will have a quick tidy round this morning and whip through the house. We are off out for dinner tonight so no cooking for me. Might go and see my dad later.
Other than that I will go my usual job search to see if there is anything for me.
Have lovely days all xx

Good morning redruby and all who follow.
Quiet here, bf had some feedback at camp about his food diaries from a while back. Some was good, some not so much. It seems to have promoted him to expand his diet a bit which I have been trying to do for ages so that's good. Had to get up this morning and make him some brekkie to take to work - I don't mind that as it means he is eating more which is much needed so yay!
Will be on my own in the office today so want to get my head down and crack on with a few bits on my to do list and get them done. I only have 8 days at work after today before I go on annual leave. Gradually getting used to a different workload and its giving me lots of time to get on top of a lot of tasks that fell by the wayside Because of a another manager who was supposed to share me (in real terms she then took 75/80% of my time taking me away from tasks actually in my job description!)
We are going strawberry and melon crazy in this house which is a nice change however they are probably two of the most expensive fruits we could choose! Anyone know what the quality of melons from lidl are like? Strawberries I can get from a market man but he doesn't do melons! Or can I buy a few whilst they are on offer at £1 in Mr m ? Will they keep long?
Not t oo much of a problem right now as bf is away for three days again next week so we probably will finish the one we started today over the weekend/monday-tuesday and then won't need another one until next Thursday to last a week again.
Need a few bits today so will shop whilst taking my lunch.
Washing machine will go on timed to be finished when I get back.
Talking of washing machines, the softener doesn't seem to be getting used from the draw on ours. Anything I can do to fix that?
We have finally ordered our new fridge! It will be delivered a week tomorrow - very exciting!
Good wishes to all, hugs to all who want/need them************************************

Good morning everyone
Bad night here and am really glad I am off work today as am exhausted.
redruby - we are all under threat of redundancy too and I know exactly what you mean about "although I shall miss the people I worked with, the sense of relief I am feeling at not having to go back there is huge, it became a struggle to work there, and unfortunately most of the people felt the same."
lushlifesaver - our washing machine does that too sometimes and I have to pull out the drawer and give it a good soak then a scrub in the shower. The space where the drawer fits gets really gunked up and is difficult to clean so I keep an old facecloth mitt to clean that with soda crystals. Hope that works for you.
Looks like being a lovely day so am off to strip the bed and get the washing machine on. Got a couple of ebay parcels to post too and want to have a good tidy around. Mr S YS steak for dinner with some mushrooms and a salad.
Well wishes for all sick people and pets and hugs for anyone who needs them or just wants them. Keep well and safe and have a super dayLBM 10/1/12 ~ DFW Start 6/2/12: £82,344 ~ Now Zero:staradmin:starmod::staradmin Debt free 17th April 2015 :staradmin:starmod::staradmin

Morning everyone,
Hilstep and Beemuzed Big hugs and posivibes to both of you.
Julie, Molly, LW Hugs for you too.
Redruby good luck in finding a new job quickly.
Camelot and Halight Enjoy your holidays.
TTFTM I am not sleeping too well in all this hot weather either.
We are off to visit my parents in sunny Walsall today. We always go down to the allotment and I am sure that my children, who never see the hard work that goes into it, think it is like a free fruit and vegetable shop! We are also going to a carvery for lunch as it is my dad's favourite.
Have a lovely day everyone.:)0 -
Morning everyone :j
Another bright and sunny day here so I shall be collecting up any stray washing and getting it out on the line this morning. Mr T will be delivering sometime this morning too and then I am going to be doing some baking with my grand daughter. I have some very manky bananas so we are going to have a go at banana and chocolate muffins. I am going to cut back on the fruit I buy as a lot of it is going to waste.
Hubby off to work and happy because it's a half day. I had a bit of a blub yesterday as I'm really missing him so I'm really looking forward to our weekend together with the girls. We are going to have a movie night on Saturday so I've stocked up on popcorn and snacks.
Operation clean the house is going well. I've made a list of chores and the girls have to get them done some time this morning. My grand daughter is 'supervising' and has got a check list to tick off. This really appeals to her bossy side, I have a mini dictator on my hands.:D I've already had an argument with DD12 about not emptying the litter tray. They wanted the evil kittens so they have to take responsibility for cleaning and feeding them. I don't mind doing it when they are in school but I don't see why I should have to do it and they all sit on their bottoms!
I have read of some peoples sad health news ( sorry I can't remember names very well) and would just like to say that you are in my prayers and I hope you make a full recovery. Also those whose employment is coming to an end, I hope you find another job quickly.
Take care and gentle hugs for all who would like one.
Cheers m'dears x0 -
Morning :hello:
Redruby I think you should come to my house and drink wine with me
My honeysuckle was almost killed off when we moved things around, put a roof between the house and the shed (my own little shaded seating area) and replaced the guttering. But it's doing well now, it's grown up some bamboo canes and is quite bushy. It's sent one bit of itself across my roof, lol, so I need to put some hooks along one of the beams, to train it. I'll take a pic later and post it. You'll have to excuse the mess, as I've said before the other trus use it as a dumping ground
It's been a lot cooler for the past couple of days so I've got lots done. When it's too hot I lay around feeling miserable, a little bit Woe Is Me, lol. I'm going to wash the kitchen curtains, they're awful. I washed the small pair yesterday, I didn't realise how bad they were til they were clean and I compared them to the others
I've been crocheting a cushion cover, will get that finished today. A lot of people seem to be making bunting atm, as I didn't want to be left out I've been making trianglesNo idea where I'm going to hang it though

Morning all,
I'm on a roll here long may it continue. I was cleaning the kitchen floor when the men left at 7 and house vacuumed throughout by 8. I need to get some order into my freezer today and clean the fridge.
Hilstep and Beemused, still thinking of you.
Weather is warm and sunny. I may chance drying the washing outside today.
Beef for tea tonight.... not sure what else i'll be doing with it but definitely beef.

Morning all,
Warm here already, bit hazy but it looks like its going to be scorchio.. And I,ve got 4 days off
RR - Sorry about the job, hope you get something soon, in the meantime enjoywe,ve got the redundancy thing hanging over us too, some staff are off with stress related illnesses due to it - horrible sitiuation, good on you for looking at the bright side xx
LL - our local Mr L is fab for all its fruit and veg, better quality than the 'big four' - give the melons a go, I take melon and grapes to work regularly chopped up, at £1 for a melon and £2 for grapes pw is a cheap and healthy option.
TTFTM - enjoy your time off, sounds like you need a siesta
Moorhen - i remember years ago watching on TV some kids about 6yo learning that carrotts were grown in 'dirt' and eggs came out of chickens 'bums' - little loves had no idea.... Love to see kids getting involved in 'food'
Going to treat myself to a bit of 'me time' today, after the shopping, washing etc might have a bath and book session, will leave water for garden watering
Have a fab day all xNote to self - STOP SPENDING MONEY !!

Morning everyone
Hugs to all those that are feeling sad/poorly x
Bright sunny and warm here this morning.
DH up but not off to work stupid early, as on day off due to mum and dad's golden wedding celebrations later.
Dinner last night was fish, chips, and beans/veg for the menfolk, I had fish, jacket potato and veg - the veg was the first HG green beans from our garden, lush they were too! Tonight's dinner will be food at the party, but may well do something bigger than usual for lunch.
Did manage to get the ironing done yesterday although it was a really hot job. This morning will be going to town, the bank and then food shopping. May spent some time this afternoon sorting out stuff to go back to the caravan etc.
Have a great Friday x
Have a good day - remember the suncream if you're out in the sun!
Keep safe and well x

Morning all,
Gentle hugs for Hilly and beemuzed, Molly and LW
Redruby, sorry to hear about the redundancy but I'm sure you will find something better soon x I've lost faith in finding a job while my leg is like it is but I'm working from home as much as possible, good luck.
Lushlifesaver and TTFTM my washing machine is doing the same thing, I washed the drawer out recently so its not that but hubby reckons one of the valves have gone, I've been tipping softener directly into the drum on the clothes. Will let you know if he fixes it.
I'm off to a local town with my friend today, lots of charity shops and we shall have a coffee and a natter. I am looking forward to it and the weather is glorious.
My face is very sore on the outside since I had my tooth out I'm struggling to put make up on god forbid I go out without:eek:
So off to do my careful teeth cleaning, rinse out with mouthwash and then warm salty water, hopefully it will heal soon.
I managed about four hours sleep last night without waking and worrying which is very good for me.
Have a happy day whatever your up to xxStarted Self Managed DMP 10th May 2017.
