Problem copying music from PC to phone - help pls!

Hi,

I have recorded my CDs onto my PC as MP3 files. They all play fine.

I've been trying to copy these on to my phone (well, on to its external SD card).

They have copied over and are playable, but for some strange reason, when I access "My Music" on the phone some of the albums have copied over as "unknown artist, unknown album" even though the originals on my computer are all labelled with artist and album names. Also only some of them have the album art.

All I have done is attach phone to PC and opened two windows explorer windows (one for PC, one for phone's SD card) and then just copied and pasted the albums across. The two windows on screen then appear to have identical contents. It is only when I detach the phone and open up "My music" on the phone, that it shows several of the items as unknown artist.

Please can anyone help as I'm not sure what is causing this to happen. Many thx in advance.

You need to edit the tags on the mp3 files, either via the Properties dialog, or with a batch editor such as mp3tag

In future use a ripper that can create metadata tags as it goes such as EAC (exact audio copy) etc

Many thanks for the replies.

Googler, please can you explain how I add the tags through "Properties"? If you mean I go into Explorer and right click to bring up "Properties", I have tried that but the options which come up don't include anything to do with adding tags.

I have downloaded the program you mentioned but can't seem to get that to work - I've got as far as adding an album and all the fields come up on the left hand side, so I've typed in the name of album and artist but all the options to save are greyed out. What am I doing wrong??!!

Also is there any way to do this reliably en masse as a large percentage of almost 30 GB of music is like this....!

Would also like to add the album art if I can, but that isn't a priority.

Open up MP3tag

Drop the files(s) you want into the window on the right

Edit the properties of of the file(s) on the left

If you want to edit properties of all files at once, say to add an image for instance, highlight all the entries like the picture below, and then drag and drop your image into the box at bottom left.

Press the save button (looks like a little floppy disk image) at the top left. Job done.

I've also used MP3Tag and find it a very good tool - not sure why you lost the tags in the first place, though...
