Planning permission question

My house in South Devon has a 30' x 6' conservatory attached at one end. This was part of the original 1970 build although it doesn't show on the plans. There were a number of departures from the plans but the previous owner who commissioned the house build confirms that the conservatory was built with the house.
I am looking to rebuild and extend this conservatory.
Can anyone advise me with regard to planning permission requirements.

Contact your local authority for an answer. A consultation, on an informal basis, with sketches, or photos, etc was free at my local authority until this financial year. There is now a nominal charge.

This way you will get a definitive answer and start off on the right foot - even with Building Regulations because these folk are probably in the same office and could be called in for advice.

South Devon is largely an AONB = Area of Outstanding National Beauty.
Conservatories have their own rules and it is fairly easy to avoid planning permission. Assuming you are in an AONB, you can build up to 3m on an attached property or 4m on a detached property. At the moment there are rules for properties outside of an AONB that allow double this until 2016 IIRC.
If the conservatory, as is, was not on the original plans, I would assume that the measurements have to include this part of the build, so any rebuilt conservatory will not extend beyond the 3/4m limit without planning.
