So earlier today I wrote an essay on who I am and why I'm in the position I am. Alas it took so long to write that MSE logged me out and I lost it!!!!
On reflection I probably needed to get it all out.
So I'm here because I was too young. I got my first loan at 18 to bail my mom out. I've been doing that all my adult life, paying for her inability to manage money. As I've got older I've fallen into the same traps. I've consolidated c/c's into loans on more then one occasion and built them back up.
OH is bad with money also so that doesn't help!
It has been worse at one point we were £68k in the hole, now after a few years it's down to £34,200 ish. So we have cleared about half. And a bonus is I've quit smoking after 20yrs!
We only have 11 years left on our mortgage (I'll be 45). It would be nice to clear everything else by then too!
My aim is to track our debt down from 1st August.
No wastage!!
A minimum of 20 NSD's a month managed 16 so far this month
To get no more bank charges for bounced payments
To clear a c/c every year
It's going to be a long hard slog. Probably 4years (gulp) but it can be done. It will be done.

good luck with your journey. It sounds as though you have had a hard time of it bailing out other people

Take care x0 -
Thanks for the welcome dawn xx
So I've woken up to the fact that our debt has a big hold on my life. It's crippled us for years. I need to push the negative away and embrace the positive that I'm/ we are dealing with this.
Today will be a good day. It will be a NSD. I will be free from this debt soon

Well done for taking charge and dealing with it. Debt does cripple you, I definitely no longer it as woohoo free money but a millstone that weighs me down and limits my choices. Chipping away at it is starting to get a wee bit addictive!

Thanks Elphabathropp. I have to just keep motivated. Tonight I'm going through my bits for a Car boot on Sunday. I've got loads of jewellery to sell. some bits for 50p-£1 and some that needs to sell for £5-£7. I'm worried that the day will be a waste and I come away with nowt but the cost of the pitch! Oh well
NSD is looking good.
Other things to do on my list
1. check bank accounts
2. Harmonise Bank accounts
3. Pay catalogue off (whoop whoop)
4. Prep my car boot bits (polish and price label)

So thought i'd log back in after dinner only to find a few more visits from my fellow MSE cohort. Thanks guys for your warm welcome
Lunch was brown bag from home. Cheese and onion with honey and mustard mayo mmmmmmmmmmmmm. Must make some more tonight.
Good news and bad from OH. The guy that he shift works with is having some family problems (bad news) so he is having to take next week off short notice (good news) so OH is picking up his hours. More gravy in the pot for August
.
Good news at work. My boss is sending both me and a nurse (ok well there are only the 2 of us lol) on a course, he's paying and we get our education credits for free. YAY!!!!!!
If you Know anything about toothfairying please ignore but for everyone else, we have to do 150 hours of education every 5 years. 50 hours of it have to be formal or verifiable. Its quite hard to get the important subjects covered as the course providers know we have to do them so the push the prices up. Some bosses wont pay for the nurses to go on courses (while paying them as well) so many nurses will fall of the register this year (end of 1st 5 yr cycle) spoke to someone from our governing body this week and he said the initial projection was 6000, doesn't sound much out of 35,000 but on Wednesday morning ( a week before the cycle ends) only 47% had logged there education hours!!!!!!
I can feel a negotiation on wage coming in the new year on a national scale, when dentists cant work as they have no nurse!!!!!!! most dental nurses are on low wages with over £250 min to pay out a year just to be able to work (without course costs). I mean would you do it for £8.00 an hour. the standing joke is you get more working at tescos, better hours, better conditions and a discount on your shopping!!!!
All those cheap skates that wont pay the registration fee for their nurses are gonna be in a mess.
I sat with my boss to negotiate last month and before i'd had chance to fight my case for him to pay it he stood up took out his wallet and handed me his credit card. ' no use fighting you, I know you to well'
I think I should get off my soap box before I upset someone. I can waffle on this subject for hours.
My point was i'm lucky, this course will give me 35 hours of what I need no problem towards my next 5 yrs.
NSD is still looking good.
Other things to do on my list
1. check bank accounts (done)
2. Harmonise Bank accounts (done)
3. Pay catalogue off (whoop whoop Done)
4. Prep my car boot bits (polish and price label still to do grrrrr)
