The butterfly is leading the way......

Hi and thanks for stopping by my new diary.

A little bit about myself. I'm 32, I work from home (mainly answering questions for 63336), I've just moved into a new flat with my boyfriend of nearly 13 years and I have Cystic Fibrosis.

The explanation of the title of this diary is the house-warming present that my 6-year-old niece gave me. It's a hand painted butterfly money box, which you can see in my avatar. I like to think that even at 6-years-old, she was giving me a subtle hint to sort my financial situation out!

I come up with all of these grand plans of how I'm going to do this and that, but the bottom line is that I need to earn cash. Plain and simple.

I need a decent wage and, if I'm honest, I haven't been earning that for ages. I just need to buckle down and get on with it. July hasn't been a good month. In fact I've earned nothing as I've been using the move and everything as an excuse not to. Very bad of me I know. I've still got 6 full days to earn as much as I can and will then start on next month.

Once I'm earning a decent wage (and by that I mean at least £1,000 a month, but I would like it to be more like £1,500 a month), I will be able to contact my creditors and set up a monthly amount with them that I can afford. They don't know that I have moved yet, so I'm going to wait until September when I will have the money to start paying them.

In the next post, you will see a breakdown of my debts and in my signature is how much I owe in total.

I'm going to use my butterfly money box to save 5p's. I like 5p coins as they are cute and I'll be able to fit more of them in there than any other coin. Once it's chock-a-block. I will bag up the cash, take it to the bank and pay it off a debt.

So, no gimmicks, no plans. Just earning, earning, earning.

My debts (from low to high):

    Debt 1 - £150.01
    Debt 2 - £265.15
    Debt 3 - £428.75
    Debt 4 - £495.98
    Debt 5 - £525.00
    Debt 6 - £540.00
    Debt 7 - £651.99
    Debt 8 - £950.00
    Debt 9 - £1,173.06
    Debt 10 - £1,456.39
    Debt 11 - £1,500.00
    Debt 12 - £2,398.52
    Debt 13 - £2,770.00
    Debt 14 - £3,618.91
    Debt 15 - £4,000.00
    Debt 16 - £4,422.03
    Debt 17 - £4,690.00
    Debt 18 - £4,759.44
    Debt 19 - £6,724.59

So there we have it - lots of debts!! I'm just going to concentrate on earning a decent wage in August and then figure out a plan to start clearing them. I would love to be able to clear around £800 a month from them. I'll keep the totals updated on this post and cross them off as I go too.

    Hi Mara :)

Thank you. It was a paint your own kit that she received for her birthday and she painted it just for me. I will treasure it forever.

Found 35p for my butterfly box tonight. Off to a great start. I might see if I can fit £20 in there and then cash it in.

I received an email tonight to say I have won a t-shirt. So I ordered this one for OH:

It's nice to have a little win, but the comps will have to stop so I can earn some real money.

Must get some sleep. Night everyone.

As you have now ranked your debts. Would it help with motivation if you paid minumums to the larger ones, and paid of a couple of the smaller ones in full?

Good luck with your earning. I am sure you can do it. I know how hard it is to knuckle down when you work from home. I have 'stuff' I have to do, and procrastination is my middle name. So I think I might start doing lists....

Hi Chev. I think we have the same middle name ;).

I was thinking of offering the bigger debts in my list £10-£20 a month when I contact them (I think they'll be happy with anything at the moment) and then killing off the smaller ones as I go and then gradually upping the bigger debts one by one until they are gone (if that makes sense). They are all with DCAs, so no interest is being charged.

    Morning

Lovely start to the day for me, found a huge spider in my bedroom so had to suck it up the hoover. I'm finding loads more spiders in this flat compared to my old one.

Pretty annoyed this morning. OH has gone off to Amsterdam with his mate and said that £30 expenses would be going into the account today. Nothing has gone in :(. I'm left with £18 and I've got my sister, niece and nephew coming over to stay the weekend and my mum is coming for Sunday lunch, so I've got to buy food for that. Hopefully £18 will cover it. I hate being skint.

    Time to start work.

Mara - this one had a small body but massive thick long legs. I've left the hoover permanently plugged-in in the hallway now so I can spring into action!!

Muser - hello :). Thanks for subscribing. I got a bit of a lump in my throat when my niece was painting it and said 'this is just for you Auntie Emily'. Bless her :A.

I'm not getting much done at all at home. Too many distractions. I'm going to head off to my mums where I will get a free dinner and seem to work better there too.

I have done a list for shopping tonight and will hopefully get everything within my budget. I can't believe the forums are going down tonight for the whole weekend :(

    Be back later (before 7pm).
