Hi

Today, I couldn't print a letter via Open Office/Word pad or Note pad. (ink carts had ink showing)

It printed an email, test page, screen print ok BUT only spat out a blank letter page:eek:

As a last resort I put in 2 new ink carts and it worked, the letter printed!


Anybody shed any light?

Ran the HP doctor @ the time and all ok.

Just weird how many other things printed alright!


Wonder if the black was too low and it would only print small amounts of black via the color cart? (carts were originals)

Annoying ! Printed hardly used as ink too dear!!

If it's a 2 cartridge system ie black and tri colour, I'd guess that you hadn't used the printer for a while and the print heads had dried up, very common.

it was printing everything yesterday (email/screen print/test print/ print head cleaning) EXCEPT a letter!

A letter will use the text black cart (if all black text).
A photo or graphic will use the photo black cart (if your printer has separate black carts).
A workaround here (if you are desperate to print a letter and run out of black ink) is to change the text to 100% cyan and print that.
It'll look a bit odd, but will be readable.
