Halifax student credit card?

I'm 19 year old student and looking to build up a credit rating and was wondering whether this would be a good idea? Im not sure what mine is at the moment but I got refused for a phone contract on my own so I'm guessing not great though I've not taken anything out etc.. except student finance.

I was thinking halifax for ease of use (I already have a current account, student account with overdraft and savings account with them) Right now I use the student account for all my day to day spending plus rent etc... I get my student finance into the current account and transfer it across.

I was thinking if I got the card I'd use it in place of my debit card for day to day spending a pay it off weekly.

presumably you are on the electoral roll?

a credit card used sensibly and paid in full each month will help you build up a good credit record
best to set up a DD to pay in full so you never forget

and yes, try the bank with your student loan they often give student CC with low credit limits.
