Lost Income Support - need some advice

Hi all,

First time poster. Looking for some advice....

I have been in receipt of income support+incapacity for several years because of mental health problems. I was recently sent for a medical and although my condition has not improved since the previous medical they have decided I am fit for work and will no longer be entitled to income support.

I rang them up and I said I wished to appeal and the guy I spoke to said he's put it on the computer I am appealing and I would continue to receive my income support for a period of upto 6 months OR until my appeal is resolved.. I confirmed with him that I would indeed still receive my income support to my bank.. and he said yes, MINUS the disability element of £35 or so.

Today was pay day and they haven't paid..

I'm ringing them at 9am to find out what the hell is going on.. but I imagine I've been told porkies, I'm gonna have to go claim JSA while my appeal is being processed.. and meanwhile I've missed out on 2 weeks worth of money.

Have I probably lost this money? Has anyone received IS whilst waiting on an appeal?

Any help would be most appreciated.

Thank you.

Andy

are you saying that you havnt received any money at all ?
you need to get your appeal in writing and get it sent off asap, maybe a trip to the doctors might help and ask him/her to write a letter regarding your health and send it off, it could be a case of them taking you off IS and making you claim JSA, definately give them a ring and let us know what happening :)
  • I sent off my appeal.. but heard nothing as of yet..

Thats correct, I have received nothing.. they've stopped it completely.

I would of went and temporarily claimed JSA the same day had that guy said to do so.. he clearly stated on the phone.. I would continue to receive it.. well its 9am I will go ring them now.. I'll post shortly....
  • okay.. seems they have my Income support ON HOLD because Incapacity haven't yet logged my appeal.. Incapacity department line is permanently engaged... typical.. but they havent' stopped it.. I will take a 20% reduction until my appeal is processed.. just need to get thru now!

so you need to get the basic IS of £59, ask them if they can issue you with a giro that you can cash, you cant not have any money
  • Back on the phone again... they're telling me they aint received my appeal yet when I sent it to them on the 28th May.. and basically they said "Send it off again" and won't pay me a penny until its received.. and told me to apply for a Crisis loan.. I'm waiting on Crisis loan people to ring me back with their decision. Busy printing it off again, and this time I will send it recorded delivery. Nightmare.
  • :hello: I am sorry that things are difficult for you, it must be a nightmare dealing with this and your health.
Hopefully they will sort things out for you soon.
