Credit file default date changes

Hi all
I just checked my credit file and noticed that Natwest had changed the default date on the information they have logged on my report. Can they do this especially as they changed it just as it was due to be removed from my file (literally days) ?
Can anyone advise?
Thanks

Changed it by how much?
If the default date is no longer accurate, or you think this was done maliciously, then certainly complain.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Hi
Thanks for the response. They have added an extra 6months on for now but I was wondering whether it was legal and whether they can keep doing it?0 -
A default date can be corrected backward or forward if there is some good reason why it is believed that the original did not accurately reflect the account history.
They can't just keep moving it time after time to prevent the account dropping off your file though.
Doing so would be deliberately recording inaccurate information that does not reflect the true account history, and processing it for longer than necessary, and as such be in breach of the Data Protection Act/Principles etc.
So as said, if you think the new date is unfair on those grounds then you need to make a formal complaint stating as much. State that if they refuse to change it back then you will take the matter to BOTH the ICO and FOS.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB
