credit refusal

Hi I've had two experiences of being turned down for credit and I'm not sure why. I'm 22 and for the past two years the only payments I've had are my contract phone and student loan repayment. I defaulted one phone bill but paid it within a day or so. I've had household bills for 4 months now and have never missed a payment. When I tried to upgrade my phone to a different network EE refused me and the guy said there wasn't a reason why. Just today I applied for a littlewoods account on the premise of improving my credit rating, and knowing that many of my in debt family regularly use it and similar catalogues. Is there a reason I'm being refused, without me having to sign up to experian? Thankyou in advance xxx

How recent is the default? I suspect it's that so stop applying and wait.

Have you tried looking on noddle at your credit report to see if you notice anything? It's free so may be worth a try.

I've just checked myself out on there and I've been really impressed by it to be honest.

Did you actually default on your mobile contract, or was it just a late payment ?

you dont need to sign up with experian to get your credit report, you can get it from them for £2

ideally u'll need to check it out so you can see where your problem might be.

but first check out noddle as its free

Dannibear I would be wary of free services like Noddle and pay the small amount it takes to get your credit checked. I worked in Customer Service and you never mention poor credit to a customer because they get upset very quickly. We were actually taught not to, we just deny without reason. Hope this helps!!! :D

Noddle is one of the credit reference agencies (Call Credit). It's just that they don't charge to look at your file held with them.

You should check all 3 if possible - Noddle, Experian and Equifax. You can get the last 2 for £2 each.

Possibly time at address and lack of credit history.
