Hi I've received a fine for parking in a retail outlet and overstayed by half an hour - I had a puncture which prolonged my stay. Parking eye will not let me off this fine as I do not have proof of a purchase at the retail store. What should I do - the parking was free in the first instance and I'm not happy paying £60 for half hour!

OK Jasper, the first questions are (i) what have you already said to ParkingEye (in broad terms, not word-for-word, they monitor this forum and we don't want them identifying you) and (ii) did they send you a PoPLA code?Je suis Charlie.0

I basically explained I had a puncture which took me over the allotted time - advised local staff as they would be able to identify me. They haven't sent a code0

OK, so write back saying you are challenging the charge on the grounds that you had a puncture so you couldn't help overstaying, and that if they refuse to cancel it they must send you a PoPLA code.Je suis Charlie.0 -

ParkingEye are a bunch of scumbags (obviously, because they are a private parking company) but unlike some they usually issue a PoPLA code without difficulty, so hopefully you'll get one! But they have been losing a lot of cases at PoPLA so I hope this isn't the first sign of a new tactic on their part!Je suis Charlie.0 -
If it was a fine for something I'd done wrong I would accept it but this is out of order0

Yup, of course it's out-of-order. But we know how to beat them at PoPLA, every day now we are getting reports of them losing.
But it's not a fine, ParkingEye can't fine anyone, it's merely a contractual matter which you are disputing.Je suis Charlie.0
