Vista, Thunderbird & Hotmail - how to do folders?

The mail program in Vista does not support Hotmail, so I need a replacement for Outlook Express from my old XP machine.
I've loaded Thunderbird plus the Webmail extensions for Hotmail.
I can download all the Hotmail emails BUT they all appear in one folder even though the Hotmail account is set up with multiple folders - which OE in XP copes with with no problems.
Any ideas for getting the folders sorted out or am I doomed to do it all manually?

Not really sure about Thunderbird and separating the Hotmail folders..however I am using Windows Live Mail without any problems, you can add practically any email provider (except yahoo unless it's a paid for yahoo acc).
It separates each Hotmail/Windows Live email account into individual folders.0
