And if they ignore your letter and Moneyline's correspondence??
You lose more in the end with court fees - you know what kind of people they are but unless this money is absolutely essential to you it may be time to move on.

it amounts to just over £150, it's alot of money to me... and its a matter of principle for myself. If they ignore my letters then so be it, its still worth a crack in my opinion. If I were to use Money Claim Online it would be the beginning steps to court proceedings, they can't ignore a court date could they?

    Hi z4kir

This reminds me of my Uni days. In my first year, I was not able to get a place in halls and had to rent with my cousin and his friend. His friend left with 2 weeks of the rent to still pay, which put me and my cousin out by £200 each.

In my second year I rented with an old friend from school and one of his Uni friends. They convinced me that they would find the extra person for this house that we wanted and so we signed the agreement. However, as we had signed early before the summer and the next semester, but did not have the extra person, me and my old friend had to make up the difference in rent, whilst this third guy claimed he wasn't able pay more than he was paying.

I and my old friend eventually recouped most of our losses once we found the extra flatmate, who we gave the larger room at a higher rent, but it was not ideal as we took on the risk. My old friend's Uni friend also rented out our rooms during the summer and made money out of it, but he did not mention this to us, which probably cost me and my old friend £100 each.

I think you will have to accept you have lost your money and will have to move on just like I have. It is difficult to trust people. From my experience I've learnt that you can't rent with more than 2 others and you need to make sure you know them really well. For extra damage limitation, rent well within your means and don't sign up for anything that you can't afford to pay in full yourself.

Do you have an Alumni website? If so, perhaps you could "name and shame" and post a message there reminding XXX that they still owe XXX the sum of £XXX for unpaid electricity bills, etc. That might get the money forthcoming !

    Of course they can!
If they ignore all correspondence you will win by default - then what?

You will already be down £30 in fees - so do you send in a bailiff? - cost there say £150 - what if they can't find them or they have nothing to pay you by?? Now your principle has cost you the original debt of £150 with another £180 in costs with IMO very little hope of seeing a penny.

At the end of the day its up to you BUT..............!

Thanks for the replies, If I don't get the money then fair enough I guess. (I just hope Karma exists!). I will probably write letters to them and see how it goes, hopefully might scare them. Will really have to see if I can be bothered taking further legal action.
